Current Functionality

IsoMAP provides interactive, web-based isotope model building, execution, and sharing through cyber infrastructure focused on the following areas and objectives:

Precipitation isotope ratios

IsoMAP extends on the prediction and data-distribution capabilities of the Online Isotopes in Precipitation Calculator at WaterIsotopes.org. Users can adopt currently accepted models or develop and apply their own project-specific models to produce global or regional isotope maps for specific time intervals.

Geographic assignment

IsoMAP provides likelihood-based statistical tools allowing users to model the geographic origin of samples based on their isotope composition. Plant or water isoscapes developed within the IsoMAP system, along with their corresponding statistical uncertainties can be combined with user-input sample values to generate likelihood of origin maps, providing a robust and standardized approach to geographic assignment.

Plant leaf water isotopes

IsoMAP implements biophysical models to allow spatially distributed predictions of hydrogen and oxygen isotope ratios of leaf water. Multiple models types are available to account for progressive enrichment, multiple pools, and Peclet effects. Model adjustments for plant physiological responses to environment are also possible.

Collaboration

At the user's discretion, models and maps can be published within the IsoMAP system, making them accessible to all IsoMAP users and facilitating reuse of results and collaborative development of analyses. All models and data products are documented through automated metadata capture within the system, enabling search and identification of content.




In Development

Plant tissue hydrogen and oxygen isotope ratios

IsoMAP will utilize models of organic plant components such as lipids or cellulose to generate tissue or compound-specific hydrogen and oxygen isoscapes. Capacity to model leaf or stem cellulose or a variety of lipid compounds will be available, as will the potential to integrate leaf water enrichment effects. As with other output, IsoMAP will allow a range of spatial and temporal scales to be targeted by the user.
